Great song by Andy Partdige from Fuzzy Warbles: Disk 2:

drank a rainbow but I could not get me drunk

All I could get me was blue,

Red round the eyes where I cried bout how green I'd been

Regarding you

And all the works you do

I took a jet plane but I could not get me gone

All I could get me was here,

Stuck in the terminal, temperatures crashing in our atmosphere

No parachute hangs near

And I don't want to find myself this way again

I don't want to pick the thorny rose

I don't want to let love spoil the day again

But it may again, who knows

I don't wanna be here

I smoked a forest but I could not get me lost

All I could get me was found

Gretel skips home and I roam on my hands and knees upon the ground

Our candy house melts down

And I don't want to find myself this way again

I don't want to pick the thorny rose

I don't want to let love spoil the day again

But it may again, who knows

Swallowed a mountain, but I could not get me high

All I could get me was low

Really marked down in your sale of the century

And we all know

That everything must go

And I don't want to find myself this way again (I don't wanna...)

I don't want to pick the thorny rose

I don't want to let love spoil the day again

But it may again, who knows

(repeat)

I don't wanna be here

I don't wanna be here

(where'd you wanna be, who'd you wanna be with, where'd you wanna be)

There's another version of this song on Fuzzy Warbles vol. 8.

it's a fake "live" version.

A good job they haven't - if Jedward, Bieber or any of the non-entities desecrated this gem by Mr.Partridge then there would be a war!

I'm really surprised a duo of pop stars hasn't picked this up yet

There are two versions of this song...the demo version (on Fuzzy Warbles Vol. 8) and a cleaned up version (this one from Vol. 2) put on an AIDS benefit album.

I had a different version of this. Got it form Napster in 1999/2000., and put it on a complilation. Much (cleaner) production: not so much flange on the guitar, Colin sings the last " where'd you wanna be/ who'd you wanna be" verse, and it fades out. Unfortunately, I played that CD to bits. Anyone know where I can get another copy?

@highflyer68 - Yeah, the demo was around since before Nonsuch, but they more professionally recorded it and released it as an online 'single' in 2005.

@xnonsuchx That song was conceived around the time of nonsuch but Apple Venus comes after that so I'm not too sure aout that. Any light you can shed would be appreciated.

@highflyer68 - I think the last 'official' XTC song was Colin's "Where Did the Ordinary People Go?"

Wow this had disappeared from Youtube for a while. So glad it's back! Is this the last official XTC song?
