We were doing a series on Abraham and wanted to set some of the footage from the excellent TNT movie on the life of Abraham to this great song from Andrew Peterson. Enjoy.

I love this song. When we read the bible, it seems as if these prophets and characters of God are so flawless and perfect and people may think that Abraham is a brute for offering up his son so easily. But it is songs like these that remind us that these are all humans. It took Abraham 3 days to get to the mountain. Can you imagine his thoughts before he went to sleep? How much he had those tearful painful words with God. How much he had to pray just to take one more step closer to the mountain to sacrifice his son. How he put his hope not in the idea that his son would be saved, but that God had a bigger plan. That is why he named the alter God's provision. God provided for him and that was always his hope, even if it meant sacrificing his son. Stay encouraged all!

by the way, abraham could see what would someday be called mt. Calvary from his vantage point atop mt. Moriah.

A beautiful song, telling an even more beautiful story of Abraham's (& Isaac's) faith, and their incredible modeling of the Father & Son's love for His adopted sons & daughters. Sometimes I think we are too hard on Abraham for his faults shown in Scripture, I know I can be (Eg: lying to Pharoah & Abimalech about Sarah out of fear; his loss of trust in God about future offspring/son and taking Hagar to sleep w/ her; then sending Hagar & Ishmael away) And yet, what an incredible man of faith! Wow!

hmmm, "... the saving of everyone." ? No, I think not. Rather, as the Scriptures teach, to save His people from their sin. His elect, all unworthy recipients of His grace.

LOVE this song! The story of Abraham and Issac is one of my favorites! This is a beautiful song with a beautiful story. I can hear the desperation in his voice when he sings, "Maker of this mountain, please, make another way!" I wish I had the faith of Abraham. ♥

@pablowan While we are all sinners and cannot save ourselves, Matthew 5:48 teaches us that we can become like Christ when he gives us a new heart. To admit that we cannot stop sinning is to admit that God is not strong enough to help us in temptation. Jesus was a man like us, who overcame temptation through power that is available to all of us as his redeemed. I agree: Saved by Grace! However, let's not forget that being saved is just the beginning of a lifelong journey called sanctification
