People are saying this piece is played too slow. Conductors see music differently.

Fauré was obliged to finish in the time allowed to make a piano roll (4 to 4½ mins). It may not be his absolute conception of the tempo of a Pavan. However, there's a version with sung text where they sing of a feast of masques et bergamaqsques. This speed may seem a little solemn for those words.

I agree with you - I feel that this tempo makes it a very powerful piece to listen to. I first heard it at around this tempo, so maybe I am biased...

Sounds just like the version on this page! In fact, I thought I was hearing an audio overlap from a different tab on my web browser. youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=jkyCgYIYg1w

I'm Canadian and I was raised on CBC. Do you know what it could have been the theme to? I spoke to a few friends and one claims it was used in a French movie from a few years back.
