Let's see here...I'm a pseudo-grind, punk rock, chip tunes musician with classical sprinkles...but I'm also a business manager. How do I judge this with professionalism? A shit sandwich! A. The drum fills are complex and meaningful. B. This shit is retarded. It's like Marilyn Manson got high on the insight of the collective of the intellectually deviant and tried to make an album even he thought would be shitty in his altered state for shits and giggles. The guy who canabalized people because of this shit band is the only reason anyone has ever heard of them. The vocals are just so terrible by any standards it's hard to even consider this art. And this is coming from a guy who loves the band 'Anal Cunt.' C. Some of the guitar melodies are OK.

Exactly. And Bathory. Black metal did not start with Cradle Of Filth, Emperor and Dimmu Borgir. That's just a new wave of it, which is actually getting closer, stylistically, to death metal/grind core.

Ancient sound nothing like a gothic band. They only look like one, and they do a darn good job at it. For real gothic sound, feel free to check out actual goth bands like The Cure, The Mission UK, Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nefilim, Christian Death, H.I.M., Type O Negative, 69 Eyes and some Lacuna Coil stuff (not their latest CD, that is a Korn wannabe disc). Ancient is just a pure black metal band that looks like a goth band. Their look, though, is very credible and very well though out.

i only recently started listening to Ancient but i LOVE Emperor and Ancients simmilar sound drew me in. seems like they were on the cutting edge of the vampire metal scene (as well as old cradle albums from the early 90's). Also Ancient uses female vocals and im a sucker for a pretty voice so they get two index and pinky fingers up. \m/ \m/

I find Ancient to be far more real and coherently black metal than any modern black metal band. New black metal fans are soooo clueless, they don't even know Venom is the band that started it all....

I don't think Ancient are "melodic black metal" at all, to me they are more of a gothic band...in the early days they even had vampiric lyrics and even worse videos than this...their music is alright and this album though.
