+vivoslibertos Anglo-saxon? Anglo-saxons are Germanic, whereas Bretons (Breton is the language of this song) are Celtic people. I'm just saying, because of you say that to a Breton person that knows a bit of History, this person may not really enjoy your remark. By the way, who's the character on your profile picture?

An hini a garan + thunder and rain = killer comboAbout the origins of Breton, it comes from the Cetlic dialects. So it's a mix of many languages from over the world. You can feel the some Gaelic influence, some arab influences (in some of Denez Prigent's songs you'll feel it) and more... Celts were travelers, so are Bretons. It's logic to compare it to another language(s).

Cornish and Breton are both Brythonic(P-celtic) languages. They are more related to Welsh than to French. French does draw from Gaulish and Belgae, but is primarily derived from Latin.

No, they're not of Gaelic descent. The Bretons are of Cornish descent; together with the Welsh, the three groups are descendants of the Brythonic people. The modern Irish, Manx, and the Scottish Gaels are descended from the original Gaelic/Goidelic people in Ireland. All of them are Celtic though, of course.

From my own research, I had read that Bretons were the French Gaels from Brittany, France. It stated to be north-west of France, but part of the country. The Breton language is, from what I've read, closely related to Cornish and Welsh. But yes, it is pretty cool. The Elder Scrolls games actually has the race of Bretons, who are descended from druids. I love the real life historical ties that was put into the games. Good RPGs are rich in historical research.

In my own research, I'd discovered that Bretons were French Gaelic. That is why it is similar to the Gaelic you're used to hearing. Just like the UK has their own Gaelic ties, so does France. It just hasn't been very popular to hear of the French Gaels. I was impressed when I had heard of Bretons in Bethesda's TES games. Apparently they're of druid decent in them.

La Bretagne a été rattachée à la France par mariage ! Le Breton existait bien avant ça ! Ce n'est donc pas un dialecte français :)
