Of course an English accent sounds funny in pop/jazz, but Amy's was extreme. Only Bowie & the Beatles & Petula Clark and sometimes Bassey remained true to their roots.

I think it's a British thing. I've noticed that British soul singers generally sound similar to African American woman. I'm not sure what it is about singing, but if you listen to people from around the world, it's funny that their accent almost disappears. Ellie Goulding sounds American when she sings. I guess it's something to do with the vocals of it all.

She obviously had talent (encouraged by her jazz-fanatic taxi-driver dad) but the accent and diction are sooooo American (deep South) that some words are incomprehensible. RIP. Hard to believe she was from North London & spoke with a cockney accent. She sounds really black and old...

I was busy raising two children for the last decade or more, I wish I would have heard her while in her prime. I've been listening up all of Amy and just a fan of her voice. May she RIP.

@beatstreet86, she has a thick accent, so her words will never be perfect! ---- I hate she was lost and couldn't find herself! RIP Amy!
