I think both Joutsen and Koivusaari sing in this version of the song.Joutsen is the one with more understandable and louder Growl and Koivusaaris are the quiet, muted Growls in the background.

I don't understand why In Flames won't do an album like this... redo (for fun) classics like moonshield, artifacts of black rain, december flower, jotun... shit like that.... their fans have wanted something like that for a long time. Amorphis did an amazing job with it.

It's definitely new recorded. It may sound very similar to the original, but there are some differences CLEARLY audible.

For a long time I fought with myself: "You really love the original a lot. Do you really want to hear the new version???" Now I finally did. Well, I don't regret it, but the old version is still better.

I love both versions, they each have their own special charm that makes them both extremely powerful. The original has the old school feel to it, while the production is much better with the newer version, which makes the instruments sound more clear and up-front, and slightly more compelling.

I really love the original version but there is something compelling about this version too. Both are awesome!

there is a clearity in the instruments - the chords are much more vibrant. the tempo has slightly slower bpm. and theres a fuckin fish on the cover this time, which I think makes a huge statment

@nazz3p I agree. I like it a lot but it's a lot more "bright" sounding than the original. The original had a more haunting atmosphere but this one doesn't seem as melancholic. I guess I'll just have to love them both. \m/

@daemonaeon There's picture evidence of him recording vocals for this album. I can personally hear various differences in his voice between this and the original version (in other words, here he sings better technically). Besides, he's done several guest appearances on death metal albums in recent years.

Actually I don't think Koivusaari sang again, it seems to me that they just sampled some of his lines from the old recoding, it sounds exactly the same. I don't think he recorded his voice again.
