The Carrie fans won't like this but she goes horribly sharp on "what can never be at AAALLLL, at /AAALLLL/". Yikes! Absolutely painful. She's better than that so I don't know what happened there. She does so again on the second-to-last "cold and lonely night". Not her best work at all. Scarier still is that Randy and company didn't say anything about how bad it was. Again, she can do better but this was not good.

Tiffany is the original singer of this song. She rose to fame in 1987 at the age of 16 with her cover of "I Think We're Alone Now". That song was her debut and it became #1 in the first few weeks of release. She then proceeded to release "Could've Been" as her second or third single which became her second #1 hit in early 1988. She originally gained national recognition for her promotional concert tour of shopping malls which influenced her first album to become quadrupal platinum by 1989. She was also widely publicised to have had a rivalry with another teen pop singer of the time, Debbie Gibson, although both have denied that they had a problem with eachother. Not many have heard of Tiffany simply because like most teen pop stars, she had a whirlwind career and then when she became and adult, hollywood wanted nothing more to do with her. This also happened to Debbie Gibson and many others such as the New Kids On The Block. However Tiffany is still an active performer to this day, however she now sings mostly Country and Western music, I hope this answers everyone who is asking "who the heck is Tiffany?" :)

i'm sorry. going back to my first comment, there is no carrie's version at all because she only copied tiff's. i didn't feel no soul at all with this one. sorry. and oh, carrie looked so much different here than today. just wondering, did she undergo facial surgery? or was it because she was so young here.

there is no competition here. please. why would you even fuss about who did it better. Tiffany is the best and she owns this song. Carrie is only paying tribute to the queen by singing it. And don't say Tiffany's VERSION because it's an insult. like i said, the song's hers. you only say version when someone does a cover, hence carrie's version.

What the chicks from these talent competition contests can't understand is that you don't need to SCREAM to sing well. Why the hell is she yelling, this is painful to listen to. This is awful and unbareable. Tiffany's version is much much better.

@clpnyc2 I know this is an old comment, but I wanted to reply anyway. "Sad judgment?" It was just an opinion, and a pretty diplomatic one at that. It has nothing to do with how many times Tiffany has sang the song, since I prefer her version based on her tone, not skill. What actually is sad is how you somehow turned my comment about preference into an insult of Carrie--which it wasn't. Having said that, I doubt Tiffany had sang this song "a gazillion times" at the time she recorded it.

No one..and I mean no one, who saw her audition, thought she would win...even Simon didn't think so, or Carrie herself...she grew during the competition, just like Clay Aiken did...So, anyone that says they knew she would win at the beginning, is a LIAR...PERIOD!!!!

NO One will ever sing this as good as Tiffany...No One!!!!!!! This is actually a very subpar performance by Carrie...They said she did great on Alone by Heart also, but she had no emotion whatsoever on either...Judges were wrong on this one..it was not good!!!!! I am a Carrie Underwood fan too!!!!
