June 17, 1949 - Russell Smith, of The Amazing Rhythm Aces, is born in Nashville. Behind his soulful lead vocals, the Aces earn three hits in the mid-'70s. Happy 66th Birthday Russell!

Does anyone out there know how this song wound up on Jesse Winchester's album, Lear to Love it"?

I used to listen to this on the way to college classes in Austin, TX when it was released (and "The Cowboy Song").

It's been too long since I heard this one. My ex took the album and I never could find it in stores! LP's, I mean! lol

Awesome song. I could have sworn Joe Diffy did this. Glad to find out I was wrong.

Hey Collins Crapo, this song was released in 1975. Great time for tunes. Not disco though.

Heard this a few minutes ago on Toronto's AM740, best overnight music on the planet. The brilliant delivery by the singer and the soft, yet hammering rhythm pulled me back from falling asleep. Amazing Google... I thought I heard 'mermaid romance, poor man's rendezvous' when I googled it on my tablet. Google got me here, in spite of my sleepy haze. What a great tune. How did it elude me for 40+ years?

Stacked Deck and Too Stuffed to jump were two of the best. Over forty years of listening to 'em, big part in my life. Nothing like bar-room honky tonk.

This song is so great! I heard it in the AWESOME 80's at a little bar in Middletown, Ohio. The bar was Johnson's Saloon, the band was Crystal Creek. I introduced the song to my, now, husband of 15 years, at the beginning of our "romance". We still request it at our local bars here in UT(a couple bands learned it for us!) We still dance to this great song, and still love it!
