I don't think even Simon figured Carrie would be as good as she is. One of the reason, Idol brings her back year after year. She shattered Idol records. She didn't do on purpose, she is just that good. And yes, I know people are going to say Kelly has sold more albums than Carrie. Kelly is worldwide. I am referring to USA only.

Simon said also that Carrie did what you are supposed to do on that show. And I what mean by that, is took the criticism for the judges and used it to get better. If you look back at the comments they gave her, they never said the same criticism twice to her. Every time they said something wasn't right, she would come back and had it correct. And after her "Alone" performance, they had less criticism, because as her mother put it, she knew what she had to after that. Ryan tried to get criticism out of the judges after that, but he also knew Carrie was going to be the winner. Even after her "Alone" performance, Carrie didn't think was going to win.
