really nice photos - intimate, yet detached and leaves you with wanting to more - like 'almost'. i've pondered the concept of almost throughout my life (that's a long story) which is why i love this song so much. 'almost' might not count - but it reminds me that reaching 'almost' is a point in the path. we have a choice - we're either motivated by being closer to our goals OR we can turn back and revisit why we didn't get what we wanted/needed - hopefully 'almost' keeps the fire burning

I totally agree with you. From her humble beginnings in Santa Cruz, to where she is now, Tracy has remained a true artist in every sense of the word. I guess my point back then was that the music industry tries to pigeonhole artists, forcing them into doing work that is not wholly reflective of who they are. I do love Tracy Chapman's work and admire her human-ness, and her artistic vision. Thank you for reminding me to keep an open mind. I appreciate and respect your expression of opinion. :-)

But, I am an essentialist also; and when an artist's focus sensibility is lost, so am I.

I felt like that also but what I soon realized was that I was expecting the same thing from her not realising that fine artists evolve. I then found it imperative to evolve in my expectations of her or at the very least, judge her on a very objective platform with every release. The former attitude is what has made artists weak-willed artists conform to standards that in turn stunt their growth or evolution.
