This was a time when,the whole british press packs went to scrutinise the scots,(these sports press people cant all fit into wimbledon or silverstone,and they have to be paid)the press did this with saturation. And its true scotland did have a great team back then.We (english)also know that the scots are fed up hearing about 66 and all that rammed down their throat, and we (saxonachs)understand this sentiment.But the real truth is--had scotland been the dominant force in british football,which has been feasible over the years,then it is us southerners who would be sick of world beaters headlines etc.its the presses fault,lay off please.

This is the most pitiful football song ever written!  I wonder what the reaction would have been if England had released this dreary song with such mocking and  jingoistic  lyrics.   I've always wondered what the Scottish optimism expressed in this ditty was based upon.  Could it have been based upon defeating an inept English team?  I can't think of what else.  Scotland had a talented team and should have qualified from their group, but hardly world beaters as it proved.
