No, it really is Gary. You're right that there's a lot of Tony in there, but IMO the cymbal sound is wrong, and Gary was a bit looser. Also, I saw this band live several times and Gary played just like this. He was great! Finally, I've done a lot of gigs with Paul Carmichael, the bass player on this album, and he says it was Gary!

Wow, thanks Jack. That means a lot.

I listened to this album most every day for several years. During that time I felt that "Temporary Fault" was my personal anthem. I'm so happy to be able to express to you (hope you see this!) how much this album meant to me, with your wonderful playing a central part of it! You and the other Gary (Novak) are my favorite Holdsworth drummers. Thank you!

Thank you PapaDudeness! Yeah well... I'm glad it evokes Tony. I was very influenced... not that I'm playing too much he would have played, I have to say. But the sound yes! No problem! I was working through my big influence... and I was 19 when we recorded this!

I saw IOU play in London pub in 1980. The Half Moon at Putney. It was Husband on drums I can assure you & on the album.

This song is transcribed in a book I own called Reaching For The Uncommon Chord. Unfortunately the guitar solo is not transcribed, although even if it were I probably would not be able to play it, Holdsworth has the most expressive, complex, dynamic, fluid, legato technique of any guitar player who has ever lived. That may be a bold statement, but really, I doubt you would find a professional guitar player who would disagree with it. His music will be studied for many lifetimes after he's gone.

wishful thinking, I guess.

Well, there is no Tony Williams here obviously... This is a fully British record of Allan. I think it's normal for a jazz drummer to apply some Tony-isms here and there... I still hear the young Gary in here though.

Man, I love this tune. Although the album lists Gary Husband as the drummer on this track, I have long suspected that it's actually Tony Williams. Not to take anything away from Gary, I love his playing. But man... Listen to this! So many Tony-isms!... they even SOUND like Tony's drums. Not to mention, this is Allan's best solo on the album, would explain a lot with his old boss behind the kit.
