Vai had a bunch of guitars he used before he started endorsing Ibanez. He had that Strat, which I believe was his main axe with Zappa, he also had a couple Charvel guitars (including the green one he was using regularly when he first joined up with David Lee Roth), several built by a company called Performance Guitars (including the flame guitar he used in the Goin' Crazy video) and probably a few others I don't know about.
