Best song from Alan Jackson's 2006 album ,the song is called"The Fireflys Song"

I used to run in a young man's boots

With a young man's heart

And a young man's roots

But now I stand where a young man stood before

I don't run like I used to

This old man don't run no more

You used to talk

And I used to nod

I don't listen

But I hear a lot

Don't believe for a second

That my key won't fit your door

I don't wantcha like I used to

This old man wants you more

Hey hidee ho

I used to go where the devil wouldn't go

Where the river run still

and the water don't flow

Heaven couldn't stop me then

Hey

Hidee hi

Good lord willin

And the creek don't rise

And life goes by

like the fireflies

Where the devil sits with a grin

I used to sing with a young man's voice

A young man's heart

and a young man's choice

Hope my song is what you're longing for

I don't sing like I used to

Sometimes less is more

Hey hidee ho

I used to go where the devil wouldn't go

Where the river run still

and the water don't flow

Heaven couldn't stop me then

Hey

Hidee hi

Good lord willin

And the creek don't rise

And life goes by

like the fireflies

Where the devil sits with a grin

Well this crazy life is all we got

Like a shoestring tied in a beggar's knot

In the end that's what this story shows

I don't love you like I used to

This old man loves you more

I don't love ya like a used to

This old man loves you more

maybe it's things like the haiti earthquake that make people realize god is bullshit. how many people there prayed to him daily? yep. god is great all right. slaughtering thousands of innocents. if a human did that kind of thing, you'd say he's going to hell. if god does it, he's "great" and mysterious. and the fact that you asked for donations to help only christian children is disgusting. there's other poor children too. wake up. you're proof that religion only serves to divide humanity.

Wonderful song. Very deep and touching. Alan Jackson, as always, knows how to encompass so many philosophies in 4 minute songs. Impressive!

At first in the chorus he says " I used to go where the devil don't go" and then in the end he says: " where the devil sits with a grin". Does it mean, by the context, that he's grown up? Like, he didn't know the evil and then he couldn't be face to face with that...and then as he's older, he knows that the evil exists, and can "see" it , like the evil is kinda near him and he knows that? Another thing, do these " hey hidee ho, ho hidee hi" have any meaning?
