Believe what you want. Mark wasn't an original in the band when they started. The other three are all cousins and brought him in right before they were signed to RCA. Randy Owen aint got no reason to lie. Without him there would be no Alabama. Drummers are a dime a dozen.

If mark Herndon was just a hired hand in Alabama can anyone explain why he was on every cover except 1 and he was also included in the Alabama cbs tv special and was introduced as a member of the band?

I no longer trust randy owen to be truthful about this situation there is more to it than meets the eye and it all circles around greed I have read 4 articles and he has contradicted himself on more than one occasion so don't hand a line of bs

really? mark didn't pay his dues ? mark added his talents to the band he paid his dues by traveling all over the world don't tell me he was just a hired hand if that were so he wouldn't be in every video and on every single cover and who ever said mark was a fucking pilot for executives is lying he is the road manager for up and coming country singer

really if he was a dime a dozen why is he on every cover and in every video during Alabama's hay day? so much for your theory , remember mark was there before they hit it big and after they retired so don't push a load of bs on me I read the article on what randy and his cousins tried to do to mark

Go read about the band from Randy Owens autobiography. Calibehr is exactly right. Marks mom met Randy in NC and told him about her son. Alabama was formed in '69 ten years before Mark was around. Drummers are a dime a dozen.

Mark was hired as a drummer in 1979. In 1980 they signed with RCA and the rest is history. Mark was always a hired hand - he didn't pay the dues the other 3 did all those years. He came along right before they made it. He didn't write the songs either. He was well paid for what he did but he was never a founding member or even a member. He was damn lucky to land the gig right before they made it when they would have had their choice of drummers.

These guys are for real. I've written both Jeff and Randy, both responded, in long-hand.
