I'm an Al Stewart-Fan since 1976, and this is an of my favourite songs. But why did you upload it in mono? It's a pity!

I like it: the running man who fades off the floor....in the blink of an eye.

This is the opening track to the Al Stewart LP 24 Carrots 1980. He made this with the awesome band Shot In The Dark.

*Identities and Settings exercise*This is his table. By the window, looking out across the avenue. Watching the cars, watching the people, watching the bicycles and the dogs and the rain... all the things that go by each day, every day, all day. Normal things, boring things. The table is simple enough. Marble top. Black wrought-iron legs. A vase with a plastic rose inside of it. I bought those for all the tables, but one by one the others broke. This was the only one left intact in my little café, and that is how it became his table. Even when he's not here, it stands alone, that table. Other guests to my café know better: Leave this one alone. Even people who've never been here before know, instinctively, to leave it be.He's not here today. He is most days, sitting at that table and smoking his cigarettes and watching out that window, watching... watching. But today, the rose sits alone, even lonely, drooping just a little bit.The sun peeks through behind the clouds, glinting off the marble of the table top. It gives me pause for a moment as I wipe off the mahogany of the bar. It's too quiet today, without him here. With him *there.* Even though he rarely talks--"Une café, s'il vous plaît." "Est-il lundi, encore?"--his absence sends a shiver through me. He's been absent before, but this one seems different. As if this was the last time. As if he'll never be back.I shrug it off, and go back to wiping.--30--Some music to go with it: AL STEWART - The running man
