One of those timeless songs... Al just has a way of creating them...

Stewart may have "channeled some Lennon on this one", but Lennon was channeling James Joyce, and Joyce was channeling Lewis Carroll.

The influence from "I am the Walrus" I can hear and some Lennon solo stuff this has the same feel in some ways, yet the words and the overall sound go together amazingly well . . . something calling us home from our restless disguises. Great song!

It's not often that a simple strumming pattern really catches your attention because of its inventiveness and uniqueness--that is the case with the one in the first 12 seconds of this song (Since it's somewhat in the background you really have to concentrate to pick up the nuances if you're listening for it for the first time). I just love listening to it (and trying to play it)--more than most songs I hear these days.

Yes, on the sleeve notes to PPAF, Al writes "Any resemblance between "terminal eyes" and "I am the Walrus" is intentional. Terminal Eyes is a suicide song, both about an individual, and less obviously about the movement in popular music in the middle to late sixties. For Eggmen everywhere.

I've heard it 1000 times, still love it, but CAN'T memorize the lyrics. They are among the greatest lyrics of all time.

I read (years ago) that Al modeled this after "I Am the Walrus," especially the string part.
