I think this is my favorite song from the album...the music is so threatening and melancholy in contrast to the lyrics. Captures perfectly the atmosphere of New Year's Eve, 1938...the world was already falling apart and people knew that the next shoe was going to drop soon.11 years ago

I don't think there is any particular event behind this one. Just trying to capture the spirit of the moment in face of what was about to come the following year. The story (I mean the love story) behind seems like a work of fiction to me. Who says it couldn't have happened though?11 years ago
