Loved this song since the year it came out. Best song to listen too right before going off to bed. Al has one of the most relaxing voices I have ever heard. But don't forget the incredible guitar work of Peter White. Not many who can match his skills. Peter has many wonderful solo albums. If you have not yet heard them your in for a treat. Thanks Peter and Al.

This song is forever ingrained in my skull as I think of the first time I visited my college friend who I hadn't seen for 8 years and we were so happy to see one another. She went through a period when her and her ex split, her father had cancer, her grandmother died, truck got rear ended and her son was sick and I (on impulse) went to see where my friend lived in event I decided to visit and saw a light on and window open and decided to surprise with a visit. Now she thinks of me when the song plays as when Al Stewart's vocal comes in was me showing up saying everything will be alright.

This brings back a lot of memories as I used to play this quite a bit when I was a disc jockey for the campus radio station at the Univ. of Arkansas back in '79 and '80. And a lot of the students really liked this! Jazz guitarist Peter White played the guitar riff on this recording, and I told him just after a concert of his in Sacramento a while back, that I loved this song and the guitar part. And he told me that this was one of his favorites as well.

I agree with Valarie Percy that this is a very beautiful song. For me it always brought out wistful feelings, a sense of loss over things that could not be avoided or reversed, such as the inevitable end to one particular romance. I love this song also because it suggests wide open spaces that symbolize new beginnings.

the mood it created? it's about a marriage gone cold, and the wife fantasizing about being with anybody who isn't her husband. great for seducing a married woman, BTW.
