Yes, this WAS recorded inside the Taj Mahal, in Agra, India. I bought this album when it first came out, long years ago, and listened to it often. The echoes he played with/off/against are amazing, and his liner notes talked extensively about it. I'm glad you posted this!

Man, producers need to pick up their real instruments. Only such much we can sample.

THE SOUND IS SO AMAZING AS IT BOUNCED AROUND AND OFF OF THE SOLID MARBLE WALLS........FASCINATING!!!!! I CLOSE MY EYES AND JUST FEEL LIKE BEEING INSIDE THE GREAT TAJ MAHAL. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSIC FOR THE MEDITATION'S HOURS.

Note mosquito getting into the act at about 51 second mark... I used to listen to this record a lot back in the late sixties (at least somewhat stoned) used to look forward to mosquito as highlight of entire recording. ;*)

i just read christopher dun's account of horn's experience in the king's chamber of the great pyramid where this recording was made, and the acoustical qualities that make it so exceptional - unique even. he made the recording sitting on the floor in front of the coffer/sarcophagus which was tuned to 'A' or 438 cycl/sec. with a stereo mike in front of him. he used the alto flute and he reported that groups pf notes would suspend and come back as a chord... thanks for posting this. it was great.
