Both "old schools" are great, really. Innovative bands came from all over - death metal originated in America from bands like Possessed, Death and Master, while Swedish death metal bands took the genre to new heights. Heavy metal as a whole began in Great Britain with Black Sabbath and various 1960s era proto-metal songs (such as Helter Skelter by The Beatles) As for what scene is the best nowadays - Europe. In America, many metal shows draw few people and lots of bands stopped touring here.

i've just checked your 2 band. Those Dutch guys play some music very well. I prefer European old school than American old school. Ofcourse, American one's still great. what's your opinion? And atleast, you're from America where the metal scene's one of the best. I'm from Viet Nam where almost ppl listen to fucking FB and gangnam fucking stupid style. Besides , there are a show in viet nam every 6 months. Can u believe that? :sosad:

They reunited in 2009. I discovered this band by way of The Gathering and Pentacle, two other Dutch bands. Nowadays The Gathering plays atmospheric/progressive rock, but they reunited the old lineup from their early days when they played doom/death metal to do an old school type show with Pentacle and Acrostichon. Somewhat of an attempt to relive 1992. Awesome idea, I wish I could have been there, but alas I'm rather far from the Netherlands.

None of those bands produced anything close to Acrostichon's level of skill. Except maybe Metallica back when Cliff Burton was still alive.
