LYRICS:

I heard in the dark, soft pairings.

Under the leaves, naked shoulders.

Under the moss, skinny sides.

Dont wake from your sleep.

I know where the common man

Will judge what they dont understand.

Sacrilege, and we keep on dancing.

Heretic, whisking round and round.

Blasphemies that go round the fire.

Dont wake from your sleep.

Tossing their heads, eyes of fire.

Leaving their beds of leaves and briars.

Singing their spells to heathen gods.

Dont wake from your sleep.

I know where the common man

Will judge what they dont understand.

Sacrilege, and we keep on dancing.

Heretic, whisking round and round.

Blasphemies that go round the fire.

Dont wake from your sleep.

I heard in the dark, soft pairings.

Sacrilege, and we keep on dancing.

Under the leaves, naked shoulders.

Heretic, whisking round and round.

Under the moss, skinny sides.

Blasphemies that go round the fire.

Dont wake from your sleep.

I heard in the dark, soft pairings.

Sacrilege, and we keep on dancing.

Under the leaves, naked shoulders.

Heretic, whisking round and round.

Under the moss, skinny sides.

Blasphemies that go round the fire.

Dont wake from your sleep.

I like to think it is about a dark mysticism of the forest at night. For example you can tell the song is set in nature (leaves, briars, moss, etc) and it is dark (first line.) I view it like Shakespeare's "A Midsummer's Night Dream" with all the fairies and other mystical stuff in the forest. Instead, these creatures have left the human realm (all references to common man.) Its blasphemous since these creatures are not looked upon highly in modern religion Also, about a lot of sex. All cool.

Well, technically, sex can be considered an ancient ritual in it's own right.

EEBurfield

Actually, a lot of ancient rituals involved sex... so probably a bit of both. Based on the rest of their songs, both, with a bit more emphasis on the sex part.

whowantsabighug

is this song about ancient rituals or sex?
