This was the b-side of the "One Of Us" single from 1981. The song is also available as a bonus track on the 2001 remastered version of the album "The Visitors".

Lyrics:

He stands towering over me beside my bed

Losing his head

Tells me I must take him seriously

Droning on the usual way

He's such a clever guy

And I wonder should I laugh or cry

He's (he's) dressed (dressed) in the striped pajamas that I bought

Trousers too short

Gives (gives) me (me) of his small philosophy

Carries on the way he does

And me I get so tired

And I wonder should I laugh or cry

High and mighty his banner flies

A fool's pride in his eyes

Standin' there on his toes to grow in size

(All I see is)

All I see is a big balloon

Halfway up to the moon

He's wrapped up in the warm and safe cocoon

Of an eternal lie

So should I laugh or cry

Strange (strange) how (how) dangerously indifferent I have grown

Cold as a stone

No (no) more (more) pain where there was pain before

Far away he rambles on, I feel my throat go dry

And I wonder should I laugh or cry

High and mighty his banner flies

A fool's pride in his eyes

Standin' there on his toes to grow in size

(All I see is)

All I see is a big balloon

Halfway up to the moon

He's wrapped up in a warm and safe cocoon

Of an eternal lie

So should I laugh or cry

I think many people can relate to that 'sinking feeling' one can feel when in the presence of someone who's ego dominates. It kills intimacy and the human connection.

For me very definitely one of their best songs. I am still amazed that these guys could live out their lives and problems so publicly. I can't help feeling, seeing the last interview in the UK before they broke up, and the very evident coldness between Frida and Benny, that this could be a very personal expression. Is that why the guys excluded it from "The Visitors"??

This song definitely ought to have been included on 'The Visitors.'

Something changed on youtube recently and I can't reply to comments anymore, so I'm writing a new one, fergusil. It's not that I hate "Like an angel passing through my room", but if I had to choose one song from "The Visitors" I could live without, I'd probably pick "Like an angel...". Its melodic line sounds too flat to me - nothing but quiet music box melody and that clock ticking. On the other hand, it sounds soothing, just like a lullaby, so maybe it was the right choice for the last song on the album.

The Visitors is my favourite ABBA album. I recently got a dvd where the album was under review and the conclusion was it was too much of a departure. I don`t think so; ABBA did take a risk with this album but its a very mature one.But its the lyrics to this album that get me: its like reading someone diary or letters; taking into consideration the pressure ABBA were under when they recorded it in 1981, they did the most extraordinary job with this album. :)

Wot? You didn`t like LikeAnAngel? The ironic thing about that song is that its the last song on the album. The first track on the album (TheVisitors) has Frida on leed vocals alone in the house under attack from an outside force removing her from her comforts; then the last song (LikeAngel) again has Frida on leed vocals, again alone in the house but this time, at ease, falling asleep in front of the fire, quite safe and not under attack from any outside force.

I agree. I think it should have been included on "The Visitors" instead of "Like an angel passing through my room" which is one of very few ABBA songs I don't like (and the only song from "The Visitors" I don't like).

This is seriously one of the best ABBA songs out there! You can just feel the vitriol in the way she delivers the "He's such a clever guy" line!

They should have included this on "The Visitors" album instead of using it as a b-side to "One Of Us" 7"single.The second verse could have been layered a bit more more but other than that, worthy of inclusion on "The Visitors" with amazing lyrics.I got "The Visitors" on cassette on 31 Dec.1981 with my Christmas money when I was 10 years old.If you`re into ABBA b-sides,check out "Cassandra"-"The Day Before You Came" b-side;and just like me you`ll be asking "B-side???? Really?? Why not A-side??"

CAN'T BELIEVE THIS WAS A B-SIDE ONLY!!!!!!!

With ABBA, music is not an end in itself, but a device for dealing with life. It is practical. Still, there is an aesthetic side. Their music as a whole looms like a tapestry. Many of the songs are like paintings, full of detail, light and shadow.

Nice tune, not sure about the lyrics. Maybe the man is right. Look at all the clever people in history who people thought were foolish but they turned out to be right. At one time nobody would believe the world was round.

Excellent video for this catchy song - I think we cried that they never finished their next album that might have contained this and other late gems!
