Heard Copland conduct this on a PBS special. This is the end of The Tenderland and the t.v. performance employed a large chorus that made for an overwelming effect. One of my fondest t.v. memories.

One of the most beautiful pieces ever written, hands down. Aaron Copland was a wonderful composer.

I got to play tuba on the band arrangement of this piece. It is a very emotional piece. And very challenging.

It would be something if, centuries from now, a scientific party from another galaxy found this video with its gorgeous music and these old movies and said, "Now that was a great civilization. What ever happened to it?"

This is an orchestral version of a choral number from Copland's opera, The Tender Land. I remember performing it under his direction many years ago as a member of the Syracuse University Orchestra.
