A small fruit song - Al stewart

From the album "fill your head with rock"

Lyrics:

The rain came down like beads

Bouncing on the noses of the

People from the train

A flock of salty ears

Sparkled in the traffic lights

Feet squelched soggy leaves across the grain

I took my love to Clifton in the rain

And all along the way

Wanderers in overcoats with

Collars on parade

And steaming in the night

The listeners in the Troubadour

Guitar player weaves a willow strain

I took my love to Clifton in the rain

Jacqueline Bisset

I saw your movie

Wondered if you really felt that way

Do you ever fear

The images of Hollywood?

Have you felt a shadow of its pain?

I took my love to Clifton in the rain

and i thought of you in Clifton in the rain

Said the apple to the orange

I wanted you to come

Close to me and kiss me to the core

Then you might know me

Like no other orange

Has ever done before

- I know this is a combi of the song "a small fruit song" and "Clifton in the rain"

but what the hell =P

enjoy!

This was an amazing find - thanks so much for posting. I now have to listen to it about 100 more times to get it out of my system.

Steaming in the night the listeners in the Troubadour Guitar player weaves a willow strain. I saw Al on South Street in Philadelphia weaving a willow strain... and I took a love to see him with me It was not raining But it was a magical summer in 1980 something

This isn't the version from FYHWR - the studio cut. This is from early 90's with Peter White.

Thank you for the upload. I've always been mainly a death metal/grindcore fan so stumbling across Al Stewarts discography and the other live gems has been a blast. Thanks!

Al Stewart is a true genius, whose style is completely different from any composer who ever lived. His career has been impeded somewhat by his personal modesty and fatalism, but for those who make the effort to know him through his verse, a little slice of heaven opens.

Is this the Clifton in Bristol, or the the one in Nottingham? Or is it a much nicer Clifton somewhere else that I've never heard of?

any way I must say, it starts with the same chords as "small fruit song" but it isnt the song. The lyrics of "small fruit song" are: Said the apple to the orange: "Oh I wanted you to come Close to me and kiss me to the core Then you might know me like no other orange Has ever done before"
