They weren't ahead of their time, they were a product of the 80s. A decade, which now I look back was a musical renaissance. We had SO MANY genres!! Rock, rap, pop, new wave/new romantics, rockabilly, heavy metal, punk, goth, electro, dance, teddy boys, mods, progressive rock, 2 tone, skinheads, Indie, and many more, all co-existing musical factions all with utterly different hair, shoes and clothes yet not fighting, much as the religions of the world used to, before we started hating one another. I am so thankful to have lived as a teenager through such VARIETY!! :D I loved it all, but loved heavy metal the most. But I still adored those synthesisers, producing new sounds never heard before or since. When proper musical talent first embraced computers and new electronic tools to make something unique. Its THOSE sounds that determine the 80's, sampling and creating new sounds from keyboards. The purisists hated seeing a guy on TOTP playing with one finger, but it was that middle finger salute of 'this is now' that gave us a sound such as Ultravox out of those instruments.

Extremes- used to get my flattop haircuts there. Amazingly Frank Maudsley was playing in a Bootle pub last year.

песня про космическую бабу задоминированного няшки. Может там в космосе в соседней галактике есть нормальная баба?

Mike didn't want to go in a prog rock direction. He wanted to go in a pop direction. That's what lead to "Dream Crome True." The thing is AFOS was at the right place at the right time to be an MTV band. It just wasn't going to last. It lived a little longer for The Fixx, but Cy Curnan, like Mark Hollis (Talk Talk), likes to noodle around. I mean, you could write bullshit lyrics as a refrain in a pop song, but in progressive rock doggerel sounds like shit. Any way Frank and Ali don't have much interest in doing the band...you figure things out in 28 years.

Take a look at the video at 2:40. This video came out in 1983, a full YEAR before the Macintosh computer and YEARS before photoshop! This is amazing. I had never seen this video until now. They were light years ahead of their time. This is proof. The only printers around at that time were dot matrix printers which really sucked and the computer monitors were these green screens which had no graphic interface. They made it look like you are printing a high resolution picture from a printer and the graphics on the screen look like something you can do with Dreamweaver and photoshop! Truly amazing. I wonder if the guys at Apple saw this video and came up with the whole idea of color laser printing, photoshop and more from it!! wouldn't that be a trip if Steve Jobs saw this video and got the idea from THEM for the macintosh!!!

Another of Liverpool's finest exports. A Flock of Seagulls were progressive and futuristic. Light years ahead of their time. Great yet very underrated band who wrote brilliant songs.
