I don't why it took me this long to discover this song but I've been addicted to it ever since! An amazing singer and band.

no, it's her trying to convince herself its for the best, as a way of dealing with it. There's no sarcasm.

Very much a possibility and after a break up like that I can see how she would use that mindset :)

Listening to this now, a year later, I agree. "You wont convince me that i'll be better off." I think also that she's trying to convince herself that she'll be happier.

While that does sound like a very good explanation and I love the idea of it I think it's a little off from the story she is trying to tell. She's explaining a situation in which her lover is attempting to convince her that she'll be happier without him. But the reality is she still needs him. At 2:18 she demands that he say what he really means, that he will be happier without HER. He's just telling her that she would be happier so as to lessen the blow or out of guilt for leaving her.

I've heard these words once. Six years ago. I still miss him, but I guess we both are happier.

At 1:10 my heart literally cinches. She sounds so pained that she has to stop for a beat, just to compose herself.

I think she is just agreeing with a man that is trying to convince her that he's "doing her a favor" by leaving her because "she'll be happier without him". When really it is him that will be happier. And she knows she will be miserable and disagrees with him but no matter what she says he won't stop saying how "happy she'll be without him". It is her saying "Yeah, sure, go on and be happy. I'll be so happy just like you claim I will be". Or at least that's how I hear it.
