the reason I said this is, sure the usa has had the greatest banjo players in the world, but john hartford could sing to, and he did, he was in a class of his own.

I met him in the pilothouse of the Julia Belle. Captn Dennis Trone's sternwheeler steamboat. John was quite fond of steamboatin' and got his pilot's license at the wheel of the JBS and took time to pilot when time allowed.

This is just wonderful, thanks for posting it. Once, about 15 yrs ago John came to our Missouri River town to help open our new Riverfront Park. When it started to rain, all but about 25 people left and John invited everyone to come under the pavilion with him while he played about 10 more songs. It was a real treat - truly a memorable day. In the music world, people of his caliber are real gems.
