Note: Click "Show More" for lyrics. This song is from the album of the same name, released 1 Feb 1971. The performance is Marilyn McCoo on stage by herself, lip syncing to the song as recorded by the band. The video is from "The Fifth Dimension Travelling Sunshine Show" which aired on TV on Wednesday, 18 Aug 1971. It's one of my favorites by this group, and seldom (or more likely, never) heard on the radio these days.

Lyrics:

Love's Lines, Angles and Rhymes (D. Joyce / Bell Records / Arista)

(Spoken intro)

Love.

Love is all the emotions in the world,

Multiplied by every man and woman who ever lived...

(Music starts)

Love leads

The lines of love in circles and angles

Love runs deep

Like a tunnel with a pendulum beat

That touches the heart in many directions

Moving the mind in silent reflections

Of the lines that touch the corners and fibers

Of the feeling that keeps running inside

Of the cycles of fears with the longing and tears

Letting out the needs and laughter

Of sunshine, love shine

Touching the fibers of the feeling inside

Letting out the things you hide

Oh, yeah...

Ooooh...

Need leads

The lines of love in circles and angles

Need runs deep

Like a tunnel with a pendulum beat

That touches the heart in many directions

Moving the mind in silent reflections

Of the lines that touch the corners and fibers

Of the feeling that keeps running inside

Of the cylinders of hope turning and yearning

Into pendulums of weary hes-i-ta-tion...

Con-tem-pla-tion...

Of the angles and rhymes and the triangle lines

The feeling touching mine with time...

Ooooh...

Want leads

The lines of love in circles and angles

Want runs deep

Like a tunnel with a pendulum beat

That touches the heart in many directions

Moving the mind in silent reflections

Of the lines that touch the corners and fibers

Of the feeling that keeps running inside

Of the cylinders of hope turning and yearning

Into pendulums of weary hesitation

Angles and rhymes and the circles and lines

With the tunnels of love running over

Taking the line and triangle rhyme and twisting it

To bend the mind in all directions

It's love and want and need and all those things

Tearing you apart...

If God defined beauty, intelligence, grace by, Marilyn McCoo, she is the epitome of all that, as a youngster I was mesmerized by her, always wanted a female partner like Marilyn, what a paradigm. Billy Davis you are a fortunate brother....

Grew up in NJ lusting after Marilyn McCoo who was born in NJ, she was the ideal woman. beautiful, intelligent, sexy, talented,...my mouth used to be open when I saw her on tv, wishing that I had a woman who was classy, dignified, beautiful, sexy, intelligent, all at the same time...Billy Davis is a fortunate dude....bless you both

Marilyn McCoo, Carly Simon, Carole King, James Taylor, Elton John, and a few others were bursting out with new music in 1971. It was a great time in American music with songwriters who actually sang their own music (not sure if Marilyn wrote though). Wonderful just to listen to the radio. Can't forget the Carpenters either.

What a great song actually I'm hearing it for the first time. I can't say that I ever heard it on the radio.

If your focus is sex as the main theme of this work, you are totally missing the message: "Love is all the emotions in the world, multiplied by every man and woman who ever lived"...

This is one of those songs that is a clear statement of the feelings resulting from Sexual Intercourse. The way the song plays and the rise in tempo reminded me of the ascension to climax. While no where near as blatant as Rod Stewart's "Tonight's the Night" the meaning is unmistakable, and done so well they got away with it.
