Good thing about .38 is that Donnie never tried to sound like Ronnie. Think they made a smart move by letting Barnes handle some of the vocals. Wish DVZ would have done more though, especially on the Strength in Numbers record.

Been listening to Skynyrd all week, inspired me to put 38 Special on. This band did have a better sense of melody...and that's saying something because Syknryd often went for melody, they even had a piano player in the band whereas 38 special did not. Jeff Carlisi's lyrical phrasing as a lead guitar player is set apart...shame he isn't appreciated more by other guitar players. Shame this band went Pop and got ruined by their label lol.

This is really a great band. Yes, they were piggybacking on Skynyrd. But Donnie was original and their sense of melody might have actually been better than LS. And they had Jeff who could come up with a riff bigger than Texas. Great stuff.
