Listen to Toss It Up on Makaveli 2pac clearly says Yeah we took y'all beat because y'all wasn't rockin in it right I'm tired of suckas not rockin the beats right. He even says Teddy Riley right before he starts dissin Puffy. He also made sure to dis Dr. Dre on the second verse to throw salt in the wound.

Dre left Death Row and sold beat to Blackstreet, 2Pac then remixed Toss It Up and added second verse

Do you agree that there's a strong similarity between 'All Eyez On Me' and Nas' 'Street Dreams' though? I was going to suggest that maybe Johnny J was working with a beat that Dre made while at Death Row, which Dre then gave to Nas after leaving DR, but I've just read that Trackmasters produced 'Street Dreams' so I don't know how to explain the similarity now. Unless maybe Trackmasters just ripped off Johnny J.

Wrong there's still Parts of Dre's Beat in The Retail Verson, the retail version is just an altered version Of Dre's Beat.

@Jimmy1992Bonez If you look back through my previous comments you'll see that's exactly what I've been suggesting.

@Jimmy1992Bonez How do you explain 'Toss It Up's' strong similarity to Blackstreet's 'No Diggity' then?

@Jimmy1992Bonez How do you know this? What's your source?

Therefore, I think Dre probably produced 'All Eyez On Me'/'Street Dreams', as well. What better way for Death Row to get back at Dre by using the 'No Diggity' beat for their own profit, and dissing him on it to boot?

The cease and desist order forced Death Row to change the beat slightly, otherwise they would have been infringing on copyright I think. The reasons I believe Dre produced the beat are 1) Dre provides a guest verse on 'No Diggity', 2) Tupac devotes the whole third verse of 'Toss It Up' to dissing Dre, Teddy Riley and Blackstreet, and 3) Tupac's 'All Eyez On Me' (song) is near-identical to Nas' 'Street Dreams', another artist who Dre was producing for (which Death Row weren't happy about).

@ChronicGod420 I think the fact is that neither of us know who actually produced the track. Turning to your second point, I don't think this is merely a case of two artists using the same sample because the two tracks sound so similar. Furthermore, Blackstreet had to issue a cease and desist order against DeathRow for using this beat, which does not usually happen when two tracks use the same sample. Therefore, I don't believe it was merely the sample that was the same but rather the entire beat

@stevebrizzle I'm not conflicting myslef. Dre did the drums, most likely, and Teddy Riley did everything else. And the reason Death Row was able to use it is because of the sample. If one rapper uses one sample and a second rapper wants to use that sample, they just pay the original artist. Not the rapper.

@ChronicGod420 You keep contradicting yourself. In your last message you said that Teddy Riley made the beat, now you're saying Dre did the drum beat - make your mind up. I don't know who produced it - I keep reading conflicting accounts - some say Teddy Riley, some say Dre. I would wager that Dre made it. That would explain why Death Row were able to use it on 'Toss It Up', albeit a modified version.
