Just picking up Mine That Bird is not easy.  He's that BLUR that zipped up the rail on the gturn, dove wide turning for home, then ducked back to the rail where he shot through in the blink of an eye to win by five.  Scary.

Everytime I watch a race I compare it to this mindblowing Calvin B win. This still gives me chills. My husband and I watched this live cheering MTB from the back of the pack. Our house went wild. Great memories.

What is very interesting is that, although announcer Tom Durkin blunders the call during the final stage of this race, he comes back two weeks later for the Preakness Stakes and gives perhaps one of the best race-calls of all time. It is a superb race-call filled with genuine excitement and emotion describing the filly Rachel Alexandra's win over the late-charging Mine That Bird.

I would love to see an interview with the announcer so he could explain how and why it took him so long for him to compute what MTB was doing?  This remains one of the most inexplicable sports broadcasting blunders I've ever witnessed.
