AFI may not be amazing anymore, but their music still is.

@RLBacklund to me, selling out is changing your style to go with the mainstream, which they have done, would you not agree?

@HoosierMF yeah and that saying is irrelevnt since the circle jerks and bad brains still play hardcore punk.

@LighteningTheif9 No I know. The band said it. That's why I think they're sellouts

HoosierMF

@LighteningTheif9 See, I don't know how you can say that when there are so many punk and hardcore vocalists that do exactly that year after year. AFI can do what they want - I'm not going to see them or buy their music any more. However this whole idea that their punk songs were immature and now they're "grown up" is really offensive to me.

HoosierMF

@LighteningTheif9 If so, then why even play their old songs at all? It seems very shallow to me

@LighteningTheif9 It's very obvious that they decided to change so I it wasn't a natural progression. I'd respect them if they said "we don't like playing hardcore any more" but they didn't. I think they disrespected their older fans by saying that they are "more mature now". Hardcore is about honesty and real life. What's immature about that?

What an idiotic comment. You obviously know nothing about music if that's what you think about punk. Do you even know what hardcore is?

@BlindMkd I agree, I mean, besides they kept changing, if they simply wanted popularity they would stay stuck in the STS era when they first gain mainstream status, but ehy changed twice after that in many different ways. Would I like to hear AFI revert perhaps, sure i would but we know thats not going to happen, at least they play alot of their old stuff live though

@HoosierMF They changed because they evolved , as I've mentioned many times before , they learnt to actually play , getting stuck in a punk genre might somewhat seem hardcore and underground , but musically it sucks. I like punk too , but lets face it it's too repetitive . They never sold out . They never will. I still don't see them on a Hot-dog stand or driving Hammer.

Pointless comment. As if any band who sold out would admit it. The fans have every right to complain because without them, AFI wouldn't exist. Now does that mean the band should play what the original fans want? No. But if you're a real music fan, you don't want a band to keep changing because it usually means one thing: desperation. They wanted to be popular so they sold out. Now they have to keep changing because mainstream media doesn't wait around. What hairstyles will they have next?
