'tis a fine song. It hasn't aged an hour.I do not know what it is but it has always made me think of diplomats (rather than soldiers). The diplomats who did or do their work. No hiding away from the realities of the world, no hiding oneself in the public service, not following some formula about what to do each day... being there because of an instinctive awareness of the costs of war. Nor being recognised - even as 'The Unknown Soldier'. Here is to all who have died in anonymity.I also acknowledge the ones who died in a war, our collective ancestors and the present generation. I, quite literally, owe my current life to what has been done to this point in time.
