Barso left early 1984. He'd always been the main linchpin for them, the hitmaker. Plus they themselves were changing, getting families and all that, so their attitude, look at life changed with them which inevitably made them and their sound a bit more serious. Suggs also said a couple of years before that he could'nt see himself jumping up and down being nutty on stage at 30. Perhaps they should have kept the nutty sound going for 2 more years and string up a few more big hits but imho songs like One Better Day, Michael Caine and Yesterday's Men are real gems . Personally I like almost everything Madness has put out. They changed over the years and I just changed with them. Today I think Madness are at the top of their game, well seasoned veterans who still make great classic popsongs like Sugar and Spice, NW5, Never Knew Your Name and Leon. I will always love and play their early stuff but what keeps me going to Madness gigs is their new stuff.

this is what i talk about... it looks like they had it all on their early albums, but lost it sometime in 1984.. things just got to serious...
