John Frusciante - Loss

Album: The Will To Death (2004)

The Will to Death is the fifth studio album by John Frusciante, released on June 22, 2004 on Record Collection. The album reached #36 on the Top Independent Albums chart.

Frequent collaborator Josh Klinghoffer appears, performing drums, bass, and keyboard.

In 2004 Frusciante announced that he would produce six albums during a six month break from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with The Will to Death being the first of these. Following the long and costly recording of his previous album, Shadows Collide With People, Frusciante decided to experiment with recording music quickly and in a minimalist fashion, performing a maximum of two takes per track.

Frusciante has stated that the album is intended to be "the opposite of Shadows Collide With People": "On The Will to Death, I thought it would be a good idea to make a record with very little backing vocals, because we'd done it so much on Shadows. I always have to have a new idea for each album. For The Will to Death, the idea was to have very little backing vocals. There's a lot of other huge differences. In every way, I wanted the opposite of Shadows. "

Lyrics:

We make the music that divides you

It's handled down as a thing to cry to

And all my wars they treat you kindly

There's nothing more important that I see

There was a time when all was empty

Unorganised a clag a death scene

Things opened up and there's so many

Paths to walk ports of entry

Now that I'm gone

Now that I'm long gone

This minute has come and gone

I never said to do anything but forget me

I can't be lost

I've learned everything from the loss

From what's gained there's an inner cost

I won't pay it, I never would

We left the seasons back in Long Town

There was a hint of sadness going round

We met the brothers who drove arrrows

And shot assumptions wide and narrow

I know I mean what I'm forgetting

We give for everything we're getting

A lot that hasn't been put away

It's building up for that fateful someday

Now that I'm gone

Now that I'm long gone

This minute has come and gone

I never said to do anything but forget me

When it seems I'm around

Check again what's up and what's down

Many silences make a sound

I'm before the equation and I'm the answer

I remember listening to this album when I broke up with my girlfriend. We are together again and happier than ever but everytime I listen especially to this song I get all the feelings.

We Are The AfterGlow

I've totally done that! I'm a musician & promoter, so when I put on a show I listen to Johnny through the P.A before the other bands get there for soundcheck... :)

Fucking bullshit. John wasn't always there you know, so you claim that before Mother's Milk they were nothing? or that now they're nothing? man that's bullshit and it's offensive towards Hillel, Jack I, Cliff, Flea, Chad, Anthony and Josh.

its the same inside of us all sure there are certain flavors but at the hour of our passing we are all just scared babies and inside there is an endless well of creativity if we choose to transfigure the energy our drive our will tobe and create something and leave it in this world you might be brighter on the other side beacause of the thoughts you left here
