I didn't want to know

I just didn't want to know

Best to keep things in the shallow end

Cause I never quite learned how to swim

I just didn't want to know

Didn't want, didn't want,

Didn't want, didn't want

Close my eyes just to look at you

Taken by the seamless vision

I close my eyes,

Ignore the smoke,

Ignore the smoke

Call it (Optimist or aftermath), she's turning blue

Such a lovely color for you

Call it aftermath, she's turning blue

While I just sit and stare at you

Because I don't want to know

I didn't want to know

I just didn't want to know

I just didn't want

Mistook their nods for an approval

Just ignore the smoke and smile

Call it (Optimist or Aftermath), she's turning blue

Such a lovely color for you

Call it (Optimist or Aftermath), she's turning blue

Such a perfect color for your eyes

Call it (Optimist or Aftermath), she's turning blue

Such a lovely color for you

Call it (Optimist or Aftermath), she's turning blue

While I just sit and stare at you

I don't want to know

to me it seems about a guy who doesn't want to see he is being cheated on so he kills her. he is being optimistic about her turning blue but she is turning blue because he is choking her. that's just how I like to perceive it but music can be diff for diff people

hmm i see it as he was strangling her dead as he found out she cheated but he didnt want to know but as hes strangling her . her eyes are turning blue.. such a beautiful color for you... that makes more since than some overdoes thing.. optimist or an aftermath .. hes killing her its better this way or she deserved it anyways.. or it fits in to strangling a dope fiend bitch .. hmm.

Well just like all of these works of art, it's up to you how you interpret the song. I have a vague memory of MJK' s commentary on this song an if I'm not mistaken it's about being in denial of someone's death. Which I relate to and hear in the song, my mother took her life about a year ago and I was angry, mad, in denial and so on. Hell it could be about anything u want it to be. That's just where it takes me

Personally to me the song speaks of someone in denial. I relate to the song very personally in so much as the lyrics being related to when I was 17 and joking the Army infantry. Thought it was what I wanted but war was something I didn't want to know. As anyone who has ever been in a major contact with enemy ground forces knows there is a lot of smoke...I used to close my eyes when pinned and terrified to see my best friend and love of my life and I would just ignore the choking blinding smoke and smile. As far as turning blue well when pulling security after any sort of casualty event one often gets a chance to just sit and stare as a body slowly takes on the blue tinge Hollywood leaves out of most movies. 26 now and all that is far behind me but every time I hear this song I remember everything like it was yesterday...the good and the bad. Thank you A PC

Basically it's about a girl addicted to drugs and "turning blue" in the face.

you probably will never get it, if you've never been an addict... or been in those places, and seen these things going on...
