"You" was the opening track on Extra Texture (Read All About It), the fifth studio album by George Harrison, released in the fall of 1975. This is my fourth video for a track from this album, which remains one of my favorites George ever produced, and in fact one of my favorite solo Beatle albums.

After a few more time-consuming efforts in the last couple of weeks I was feeling very lazy and didn't want to mess with some of my other video projects (probably how George felt when he wrote the lyrics to this track?! ;-)....so I decided to fall back on one of my old tried and true methods...the dancer silhouette! LOL! I have an upcoming video featuring the "grooving girl" upper torso silhouette (where the effect actually works better IMO), but decided to go ahead and plug her into "You" where her groove fits the track pretty nicely.

From Wiki: The album was recorded following his troubled North American tour at the end of the previous year and the poorly received Dark Horse album. Extra Texture was Harrison's final release under his contract with Apple Records and EMI, and also the last studio album issued by Apple.

Despite its downbeat mood and the negative reviews it received from music critics, Extra Texture was certified gold for US sales within two months of release and produced a modest hit single in the song "You". Uniquely among George Harrison's solo albums, Extra Texture was mostly recorded in America rather than in England.

Depression permeated many of the songs that Harrison was writing during this period, an issue that was not helped by his continued heavy drinking and cocaine use, nor the bad publicity attending the ongoing "My Sweet Lord" plagiarism suit. The lyrics for "The Answer's at the End", "This Guitar (Can't Keep from Crying)", "World of Stone" and "Grey Cloudy Lies" would all steer clear of his usual subject matter − Hindu spirituality − and instead appear to beg the listener for compassion. Harrison's wavering from his Krishna-conscious path was most evident In "World of Stone", writes author Gary Tillery: "'Such a long way from home,' he says, but in his autobiography he renders it, 'Such a long way from OM' − confessing inner turmoil at having strayed from his faith."

"Tired of Midnight Blue" was written in Los Angeles, where he had decamped to in the early spring on Dark Horse Records-related business. The lyrics focused on his "depressed" state following a night in an LA club with "a lot of grey-haired naughty people", he would later say; to Tillery, with its chorus line "Made me chill right to the bone", "Tired of Midnight Blue" was Harrison reaching "rock bottom.

Till next time....hope you enjoy the effort!

As Usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who's art made this new art possible....THANK YOU!!!!!

[Lyrics]

(one, two,

one, two, three, four)

I, I love, love

And I, and I love you

Oh you, you, yeah you

And you, you, love, love

And you, yes you, you love me

Yeah you, you, yeah you

And when I'm holding you

What a feeling

Seems so good to be true

That I'm telling you all

That I must be dreaming

And I, and I, I love you

Oh you, oh you, yeah you

And when I'm holding you

What a feeling

Seems so good to be true

That I'm telling you all

That I must be dreaming

Now I, oh I, I love, love

And I, yeah I, I love you, I love you

Oh you, you, oh you

Oh, you know that I love you, oh oh oh

Oh, you know that I love you, I love you, I, I said I love you

George revisited the basic track that was recorded in 1970 and added instrumental and vocal overdubs. If you listen closely as the song fades out, you can hear Ronnie Spector adding her trademark "whoa, whoa" vocal.

MetalGuruMessiah ~ the dancer silhouette works well with this; a song from '70, we know from '75, plugged into now. This meant so much to me as one of the first records I could afford to buy in '75 when I was 14. Can you tell us more about the dancer/model?

Hey Jon :) I was never a huge Beatles fan, but I was always a big (solo) George Harrison fan! I love this song & share, you always seem to be able to take a song and artist to the max! Great Sunday morning share, made me feel like dancin' ~ except for the fact that after being up almost all night I'm going back to bed! lolol ... Dan hasn't budged yet! He's beat after a long week at work! :) Have a musical day, Jon ~ as always, love & peace from here to there! :)~Donna :)
