The last time we visited Portland we ran into Typhoon horn player Tyler Ferrin by pure chance. We were in a local music store and mistook Mr. Ferrin for one of the clerks. Jennifer, who is keen on asking about small local groups that she likes to listen to (and unaware to whom she was speaking), was looking for recommendations. She gushed on to him about how Typhoon was her second favorite group (trailing just after Horsefeathers) as indicators of her particular musical tastes. Chagrined he confessed the connection but then proceeded to make some interesting recommendations based on their shared tastes. Feeling like a 3rd wheel I wandered off in search of my own eclectic tastes and so only recently learned what his musical recommendations were.*Y La Bamba* is a group whose style is difficult to pin down. There are folk, Latin, World, and other influences present here but also something else that is uniquely Pacific Northwest. *Ponce Pilato* from the *Court the Storm* CD provides a slice of some of their talents but it is far from definitive. I encourage you to discover more.
