A song from the album WOODS 5: GREY SKIES & ELECTRIC LIGHT

Lyrics:

In the darkness, under the stars, With enough warning, to pull off to the side, in time

In the end, was there anyone to share in your joy?

I woke up one day...and realized it was already over

Back On the highway, under the moon, my final moments, still wondering about you...

In the end, was there anyone to share in your joy?

I woke up for years without you, to realize it was already over, for me

Now making amendments... to the dream / story...

Changing the ending, as I would like it, to be

We were together, in a memory

And We live forever, in finality.

Holding on...To a dream...

When the end... couldn't come slow enough for me.

Holding on...

I don't understand why some people think he committed suicide, did he not die in a car crash?

Guys, just listen to the beautiful music and stop taking the lyrics so literally. Music is art and a medium to tell stories. Sit back and enjoy. Claiming that David committed suicide by using his lyrics as "proof" is an insult to his memory.

imo he commited suicide, go to metal-archives and read some of the lyrics, basically saying he has accept suicide. plus death is not a exit? and this song? i look at the entire w.o.y discovery as DG's suicide note. seems like he got worse after the whole sarah green deal.

"Back On the highway, under the moon, my final moments, still wondering about you..." It is scary how this is almost foreshadowing what happens to him. Especially considering this is the last song on the last album that they made.

I get that feeling as well. I hope it's not true. David was such a miraculous human being and so sad. He deserved to be happy...

The lyrics on this album are incredibly uncanny sometimes.

This is one of my favourite songs ever. Damn the world is cruel. Oh well I know I will remember this song long after the next few years. RIP

If only David were given an alternate ending...

In an interview with Joel he explained the idea behind the song, someone who wins the lotto and is consumed by the wealth and pushes everyone away as if they're better, ends up losing everything and regrets what they have become; driving on the highway they are reflecting on what they have done and wish for an alternate ending and creating that image in his mind...in a memory.

Dear Lenny, Thank you for that unselfish comment, but for you, I hope the best is yet to be. David's words," holding on....." no matter what life's challenge faces you...Celebrate the joys!!!We miss David more each day, more than the day before...Esther Gold ( David, Michael, aura and Marie's Mom and now through David's Associations I have many new Metal kids who hold my shattered heart closed to their grieving hearts.

David's message to you is to live your own life to the extreme. Cherish everyday and live it like it's your last. :)

I wish we could make an alternate ending for him and bring him back.

Oh, come on. It's simply a repellent attitude to hold the despairing suicide accountable for the grief he or she causes, and so conceive of suicide as some moral trangression. To respond to suicide with condemnation is both nasty and stupid. Not that he did take his own life. It was an accident. I feel sure of this.

Wasn't he hit by a drunk driver?
