The studio version of the song "Porchlight" from the album "Ashes To Dust".

Whitmore wrote the song, Southern Records put out the album, I got the pics from various sources.

I was driving through Iowa and I had the local NPR station on when I heard him live, I couldn't find any thing to write with so I just kept remembering the name, a cross between an old schoolmate and my choir teacher. I'm a song writer also, and it felt like he had stolen my old song book and improved on it, Damn I'm glad I was driving through Iowa on that day and at that time, in that county.

As an European I envy this countryside culture of you Americans. Wish I was there... This one here is a very beautiful song.

My husband died in May-this song resonates with me like no other. He called me his bride even after 32 years of marriage.

I wish I'd seen this earlier, because yeah, I was listening to this yesterday and I started thinking of my Grandfather and I burst into tears. Just, all of the tears, everywhere.

It surely is a nightmare sometimes. But I am closer to living in the wild or on the farm than I was when i wrote the first comment :-) thx for reminding me that I even wrote it :-)

I'd have 2 say growing up on the farm was a great life. I wish I could give my boys(Waylon & William) the freedoms I enjoyed but the times of small time farming are sadly gone. The morales and ethics I learned I will try to install in my children.

I'm a 34 year old guy and I cry like a baby every time i hear this song. My grandpa had a farm and was a very hard working man, his love for his wife and family was second to none. They lived in a log cabin he built himself! He was diagnosed with cancer and died a short time later. If I didn't know better I would think Will wrote this song for me and my family. Thank you Will for writing such beautiful and powerful music!

@kickingmule Dear man, you can take everything down to the basics without a lot of words. Bless you for this talent! This was for his dad who died. A tribute to his dad who was a 'poor dirt farmer and good guy' as he says. It is also a tribute to his mother if you hear the last verses.
