Wow, this is great...

I'm not much of a country music fan, especially not of this more classical form. But there is something I really admire about James Taylor. He has an emotive voice that stirs something deep inside.

Heard James Taylor perform this song in at the Hydro in Glasgow last year. Last song of what had been a memorable concert he was accompanied by two singers and a violinist. Absolutely stunning rendition of what is a beautiful song. The very large audience arose as one to tell him that they had all loved it too. Sing on Sweet Baby James.

Lilted the original tempo since my youth...this is pure taylor..just sweet and beautiful

I like James Taylor, but this is just annoying.  The refrain "Will ye go lassie, go" needs to be thrown away, not stretched out. And where does he get "build my love a tower", when the sensible original is "bower"; or, even worse, the farcical "I will surely find another", instead of the the tragic "I shall surely find no other"....  OK - pedantic, I know - but it's just painful to an English folkie!

Taylor sings the best redention of this song I hav ever heard.

For what it's worth, the McPeakes were Scottish but lived in Northern Ireland and borrowed elements of the song from Scotland's Tanahill. Which makes the song "dual national" but really mutlinational from its international appreciation. James does a beautiful job with it.
