That is quite true, but that doesn't mean they didn't have male fans. Boys back then doesn't yet have that kind of manliness stigma attached like the boys nowadays do. Liking boy bands were not something weird or gay (as they think today). Male fans were just too embarrassed to go to these kind of concerts I guess. They probably thought that screaming and shouting below the stage is just too much drama for them.
