I'd be okay with them branching out in any other way. But this?! All they're doing is cashing in on a cheap summer sound to blend in with all the other tripe that aimlessly floats around as well. It's cynical and really shows their true colours in my opinion. If you like it, fine. But I think this is anything but freedom of expression, it's following the crowd, the last thing I'd ever think a niche band like Weezer would do.Edit: They saw that Linkin Park could do it so they took advantage of the situation, it's clever don't get me wrong, but it doesn't erase the fact that it's really, really low of them. It's not TERRIBLE, it's just watered-down, pandering, half-assed pop garbage. It's exactly what they did back in the 2000s with the Red Album and Green Album, and the other one we don't speak of. I'm going on a huge rant here, but it pisses me off. Not that the band is trying something new, but that they lose any semblance of originality when they do it. The song itself isn't even new or interesting in the genre it's in. Yet people defend it, because it's 'unfair' for the band to get all this 'hate'. It's not unfair and it's not hate. This is so obviously a cash-in on the shitty, watered-down, airy, reverberating, generic, slow, bland, and never-ending stream of half-assed dancehall and future-house we've been force fed since about March 2016. And from a band like Weezer, one which JUST RECOVERED, mind you from an incredibly bad streak of albums, ranging from 'okay' to 'banned as a form of torture by the fucking Geneva Convention', makes me really, REALLY doubt the future of not only evolution in popular music and in Weezer themselves.6 years назад
