I had a coworker who knew more about music than I did... we shared an office outside of cubicle-land so I let her set up the Pandora, and gradually I came to realize that the band who did THIS song and THAT song and THAT song too, were one and the same band... eventually we just plugged into WeenRadio, which is still going (thank you, Deen!), and I became a huge fan. I agree the solo in this live version is mediocre. It's improvised and this one was a bit of a miss. As for great guitarists of our time - how do you measure that? Crazy technique? How fast someone's hands move? Rightfully, the jazz and classical guys are the best. I think where Mickey shines is composition. Few are better at composing solos to suit a song or genre rather than distracting from it. Songs like Flutes of Chi or Gabrielle and many others.
