British band WEAK13 have written and recorded a special one-off song that pays homage to the Midland UK musician Rob Geraghty who passed away in 2009 and was known musically for his work in the Kidderminster band known as MEG. Recorded at Base Studios in Stourbridge; the ‘Listen To MEG’ song written by WEAK13 salutes some of the song titles and themes from MEG’s back catalogue by embedding them in the lyrics of this newly written tribute track paying special homage to the MEG songs ‘Lego Hair’ and ‘Greasy Sausages’.

"There's a lot of tunes by MEG which I hope will start getting played more by people. Tunes like 'Kelly, you're the teacher' I just loved for it's sheer originality and epic sound. Another favourite is 'StarFleet' which is an emotional tender heart warming cover version of the theme tune to the 80's kids TV show of the same name; MEG were just so inspiring as a band" - Nick J.Townsend

Two members of WEAK13, bassist Wesley Smith and vocalist & guitarist Nick J.Townsend, perform on the tribute song along with special guest drummer Simon Henley. Full time WEAK13 drummer Neel Parmar was not in the country during the time of the recording session for the 'Listen To MEG' song but gave his blessing for a guest drummer to ride his drum stool whilst he was temporally on location in Mexico. "We've always had respect for artists and musicians around us; WEAK13 is a great way for the three of us to express what we want to do musically" - Neel Parmar

Frontman & guitarist of WEAK13 Nick J.Townsend explained that he took the writing of this song very seriously and wanted to create a song that would be fun, appropriate and inspiring. "The music of MEG meant a lot to me personally; that band played a lot of the same venues I did when WEAK13 first hit the music scene, I set up a show for them during the time I had a residency at a Kidderminster club which at the time was called Redwoods; their music was just darn brilliant; MEG's forced absence is a real shame as they were one of the best bands to come out of the Midlands and Rob was a great musician"

Playing a cover or tribute of an established song is common place for a lot of musicians but the 'Listen To MEG' tune is somewhat different; an original song written by an underground band for the soul purpose of showing love and respect for the music of a fellow underground band that had to stop after MEG singer Rob Geraghty tragically passed away. “We asked Thomas Games, one of the remaining band members of MEG, if it was okay for us to include one of the riffs from the MEG song ‘Greasy Sausages’ at the end of the track that we wrote; we felt it would be a nice touch for the fans of MEG and an extra tribute to Rob Geraghty” – Nick J.Townsend

"There's no politics in this tune, it's nostalgic and futuristic in some senses of the word, it's not a MEG song but it does include the MEG riff and lyrics in the outro; Nick asked Thomas Games for permission to use it and we tried to make sure it suited the song. Also, I think a lot of people who grew up in the 80's may smile at some of the intertextuality included in the lyrics. It's a respectful song that we hope Rob would have loved; the tune isn't a sad song, it's a jolly high energy rock number but it's respectful. British band WEAK13 have spent the past three years recording their debut full studio album which is being engineered by Eight Great Fears guitarist John Stewart. The band had to juggle their recording schedule and commitments for their album being engineered in Coventry and produced the 'Listen To MEG' song at a separate recording studio. “I remember bumping into MEG bassist Allan Thombs at a train station and telling him I was going to write a tribute song for Rob Geraghty and MEG; I’ve gone back and forth in my mind over the past few years adjusting and re-arranging it; I really couldn’t rush this; felt right us recording the tune this year” - Nick J.Townsend
