This is a Hoyt Axton tune which worked well for Waylon, Elvis and Three Dog Night.

you know when you think you love an artist, read about him/her, live your life like them becasue you're so influenced? well i thought i knew waylon after listening to so much of him, but i've never listened to this song. so i've been fooled, he is so much more than what i thought he was, he is the man, he is the boss, he is HOSS. WAYLON FOR EVER!

Scratch vocals or not, Waylon here in his prime was a great voice. I've always considered this song the greatest example of it. The phrase after the steel break, 'they say the ladies are insane there' is a musical and vocal moment for the ages.
