This comment is in reply to Daztay, as Youtube won't let me reply to your post.Do you really believe Midge Ure was a Johnny come lately of the 80's scene!!! If you do, you obviously don't remember the 80's or his input. He was in the Guinness Book of Records for his achievements.Steve Strange was a face for Visage only, as no-one else wanted to front the group, which was meant to be an experiment to produce dance music at the time. They were never meant to be a group to go out and play live, which is why it was years before Strange took the band in that direction, but by then the best members of the group had left.As for Fade to Grey, yes it was a little tune that Billy Currie and Chris Payne played as a sound check, but I can assure you, it wouldn't have sounded anywhere near the finished article without the lyrics and production, which was all Midge. If you listen to s lot of stuff he produced for other bands back then, they all contained his influence and were recognisable.Midge was already experimenting with synths when he was in the Rich Kids, which would have been around the time John Foxx decided to introduce them in a bigger way to Ultravox! before he decided to leave. Midge and Rusty Egan then used the studio time they had left from The Rich Kids to produce some demos, which were the starting embers of Visage. They asked Steve Strange to front the band, knowing his vocals were lacking.Midge told me a long time ago when I asked him why the songs sounded a lot like his vocals if he didn't sing on them and he said that he sang all the vocals and played it through headphones, so that Steve could sing along with a guiding vocal.I get really annoyed when people hold Strange up to being Visage and it's as if he was single handedly responsible for all the songs. The reason the first two albums are remembered is due to the fantastic music and production and that was down to the members at that time, but mostly Midge and Billy Currie, that is why a lot of the Visage songs sound like Ultravox. Nothing Visage did after Midge and then Billy left, were a patch on the earlier songs and there was a reason for that.Midge and Ultravox were very influential and their music is still beloved to this date and stands up well to time.

midge ure was a latter day adittion to ultravox with the original frontman John Foxx having departed. Midge has and always will be a johnny come lately as regards to influential artists of the 80s. he rode on the back of the afore mentioned john foxx and gary numan. Visage were formed with half of gary numans band involved. Midge took full credit for the electronic sound where he was merely duplicating the men who created the 80s sound before him. shame on you midge and rip my friend steve.

This track reminds me of when I had been overloading my eardrums with Numan, OMD and the League on my Sony Walkman, Visage Visage led me away to the path of Ultravox.But I soon returned back to Visage the dawning of New Romantic!I still thank Numan for the loan of his Roland CR-78 and. Moog Polymoog 280a to create Fade to Grey, Billys Odyssey put the final touch to Steve's vocal masterpiece.

The first album, 'VISAGE' is one of the best albums I have ever heard; the great songs, the production and actual ability of the musicians playing is still underrated to this day, would have been a dream to see this album performed live by that band at the time ,,,,, oh well , thanks for the memories and great tunes... still got a great vinyl version,,,, will be listening for a few days.....RIP Steve, you lived the dream!!!
