I'm sorry to be "that commenter" but I simply cannot stand the conductor.  This is the finest attempted classical musical recording of the modern age, and is ruined by... oh I don't know what?  Ego maybe?  Incompetence? Could be so.  I'll stick to my 1967 video of La Scala with Karajan and Price in this work.

Gheorghiu, even Renee Fleming is much better than Anja in Verdi's Requiem.

Don't bother trying to understand his sick mind. He has got a pathological problem with Harteros and Kaufmann...

Maybe you re right - but I dont like this soprano singing the big roles and her italian is a mass ... As well as I dont like her bad technique (her piani are squeezed out and ingolata as well as her forte is an forced push AND HER deep notes are all broken !) Try to listen to Ines Salazar - she is still wonderful

Guleghina at the Met last year was very out of tune as turandot, and she still had the top notes but she needed to push them hard. I don't think she has the piano required for the Libera me anymore. She was an excellent Tosca maybe seven years ago, and her Abigaille was also great in 2002, but today, right now, it doesn't have the finesse anymore. It would be wonderful if Sharon Sweet came back; I just wasn't aware she was performing anymore. I thought she teaches full time and that was it

Guleghina would not sing this as well as Harteros. Maybe in 2001. Sharon Sweet was one of the best singers of the end of the 20th century, but she retired long ago. Harteros isn't that bad in this!!

Really ? I think more like "Oh my goodness her voice is shrill & harsh and she sqeezed all out what she have but not good enough ...! But for me the cast (Pape Garanca etc.) is not good enough for Verdi Requiem
